Sunday Hike at Fort Caroline National Memorial

After we got home from our MLK weekend trip mom decided that we needed to go hiking every weekend so that we are in shape for our March trip. On Sunday, January 24th mom loaded me in the  truck with her friend and co-worker Hannah and we headed off to Fort Caroline National Memorial. After a bit we stopped so I could have a water break. Mom wanted to take my picture but I was too interested in all the other people. 


We passed this really neat looking old Oak tree.


There were so many different smells on the trails, dogs and people and animals I never knew of.
 

At one point we stopped to rest, there was a good view of  the St. John's River. 


Just off the trail was this headstone marking the grave of a Sgt. Spearing. He was a soldier in the Confederate Army. Mom and Hannah spent some time wondering how he came to be buried here. It is nice that people still place flowers on his grave.



At another rest area there was this marsh view. I couldn't really see much because of the high grass but mom told me it was neat.


This was nearing the end of the hike, I was glad it was a cool day and there was a good breeze off the water.


At the end of the hike, I flopped down in the sand, I was tired. Mom whipped out the water bowl and made sure I got a good drink. 

When mom got me back in the truck I covered her face with kisses to thank her for a great Sunday. Unfortunately the last few weekends have been rainy so we have not been able to  do any more hiking. On the other paw, mom keeps checking the weather for the town in North Carolina for our March trip. She is concerned it might be like MLK weekend as they have been getting a lot of snow and freezing rain up there. Mom also adds that some years it has been almost 70 during the day for that week, only time will tell. I'm just glad they have a fireplace in case it is cold.

    I am glad you are getting to explore our beautiful places. Prayers for better travel weather for your March trip.

    It has been raining a lot. Be sure mom remembers your heartworm pills--when it warms up the mosquitoes will be hungry😯😁

A Spring Trip to Decatur, GA

Hi everyone, it's spring time and the weather is pretty nice, not too hot yet and no more frosts or freezes for awhile. Since mom's youngest grandchild was close to her first birthday mom thought it would be a great time for a road trip up to Decatur, Georgia to see the birthday girl, Annabelle, and her parents.  A couple of days before the trip, mom's son called to ask what time we would be arriving. Then he added that he had taken Sunday off to spend time with our mom. On Sunday, March 20th we were up at 4:00 am so we could be on the road early. We pulled out of our driveway at 5:30. Mom's Annual Birthday Trip 2022

 Hey everyone, it's Mea'Ola and I'm back. I know it's been a while since mom last posted, but her computer died and then every time she had enough money saved up to buy a new laptop, I had to go to the vet and there went all of mom's saved money. Now that I'm healthy and mom's back to normal she can get back to blogging, cooking and taking trips. So, back in June of 2022 mom booked her annual birthday trip, but this time she booked a large house so her daughter, her son in-law and their 3 children could join us. They also brought their dog which created some issues. But on with the story, as you might remember from previous posts, mom likes to take the backroads when possible. Mom's Birthday Trip 2023

Summertime is terribly hot and humid in Florida so mom always heads to the mountains. In 2022 the place she picked wasn't too far north of Atlanta, so it was not cool. In 2023 we went to Mount Airy, North Carolina, not far from the Virginia state line. It was not all cool as mom and I would have liked it to be, but it was better than Florida. Now, an important fact to know about Mount Airy, is it is famous for two things. First, it is the birthplace of Andy Griffith and the town was used as the town of Mayberry in the Andy Griffith Show. Secondly, it is home to the world's largest open air granite quarry. Anyway, mom found this pet friendly place named Lily's Place and the rate was very reasonable. The owners love dogs and your pets are welcome on the sofa and the bed.  Mom loved the sign when we first walked in. I've gotten this vacation stuff down pat, and mom doesn't have to medicate me anymore before we leave on trips. Now I take a nap while she unloads the truc...
