Penrose, North Carolina, MLK Weekend 2021

Mom got a 3-day weekend in January for Martin Luther King weekend. Since she gets so much time off she added an extra day and made it a 4-day weekend. 

Mom found this cute cabin on VRBO in Penrose, North Carolina.


This was the view from the driveway. 


The first thing mom did was to take me for a walk. Then I sat inside and watched her unload the truck. Since it was a short trip there wasn't a lot of stuff. 


Once mom was done going in and out she turned on the gas fireplace, it made the living and kitchen areas nice and warm. I settled right in. Mom is getting really good at helping me feel comfortable on trips. She brought my bed and all my toys. 


Saturday morning came and mom was hoping to go hiking, however the high for the day was about 27 plus the wind. we spent the day in the cabin, watching movies in front of the fireplace while mom worked on a needlepoint project. When the afternoon sun came in it was really nice. I was glad we stayed home.


Sunday morning came and I said "Mom, are we going to hike to the waterfalls today?" She said probably not as it was not supposed to get above 30 degrees and that would make for a pretty chilly hike. "Okay, I'll go curl up in my bed in front of the fireplace for the day."


When we got up on Monday mom said "Look Mea, we got some snow overnight." It was what mom called a dusting, not enough to make it hard for us to get down the mountain. 


While we didn't get to do any hiking mom and I really enjoyed the mountains views and very relaxing weekend.

Our next trip is in March and it is for an entire week! Mom is hoping the weather cooperates and we can do a lot of hiking. We're going back to where mom used to live in North Carolina.

    Mea'Ola, you and your mom are getting to know each other well. So glad you got to enjoy your mountain cabin visit together.

A Spring Trip to Decatur, GA

Hi everyone, it's spring time and the weather is pretty nice, not too hot yet and no more frosts or freezes for awhile. Since mom's youngest grandchild was close to her first birthday mom thought it would be a great time for a road trip up to Decatur, Georgia to see the birthday girl, Annabelle, and her parents.  A couple of days before the trip, mom's son called to ask what time we would be arriving. Then he added that he had taken Sunday off to spend time with our mom. On Sunday, March 20th we were up at 4:00 am so we could be on the road early. We pulled out of our driveway at 5:30. Mom always adds extra time to our ETA to allow me to take potty walks. She's really good like that. I mean, I could hold it all day like I do when she's at work, but she's says if we're together there is no reason for me to have to hold it. Mom's Annual Birthday Trip 2022

 Hey everyone, it's Mea'Ola and I'm back. I know it's been a while since mom last posted, but her computer died and then every time she had enough money saved up to buy a new laptop, I had to go to the vet and there went all of mom's saved money. Now that I'm healthy and mom's back to normal she can get back to blogging, cooking and taking trips. So, back in June of 2022 mom booked her annual birthday trip, but this time she booked a large house so her daughter, her son in-law and their 3 children could join us. They also brought their dog which created some issues. But on with the story, as you might remember from previous posts, mom likes to take the backroads when possible. Mom's Birthday Trip 2023

Summertime is terribly hot and humid in Florida so mom always heads to the mountains. In 2022 the place she picked wasn't too far north of Atlanta, so it was not cool. In 2023 we went to Mount Airy, North Carolina, not far from the Virginia state line. It was not all cool as mom and I would have liked it to be, but it was better than Florida. Now, an important fact to know about Mount Airy, is it is famous for two things. First, it is the birthplace of Andy Griffith and the town was used as the town of Mayberry in the Andy Griffith Show. Secondly, it is home to the world's largest open air granite quarry. Anyway, mom found this pet friendly place named Lily's Place and the rate was very reasonable. The owners love dogs and your pets are welcome on the sofa and the bed.  Mom loved the sign when we first walked in.
