Fourth of July
Well, here I go again. We had just gotten home from the Alabama road trip when mom told me we were heading down near Fort Lauderdale to spend the Fourth of July with her daughter's family,,,seriously?? Another road trip?
Mom wasn't joking. We got home on Sunday the 28th and were back in the car and on the road on Thursday the 2nd.
Mom likes this overpass, it has old train outlines on it and it also means mom is close to the exit for the Florida Turnpike and we're closer to her daughter's house.
Mom's daughter has a dog, a puggle to be exact, Ruby. When we first met, Ruby started snarling and growling right off the bat. Her mom told her to go to bed, I was polite and stayed quiet. Then Ruby came running up on me all nasty and snarling and growling again so I told her off. Not a good thing to do. My mom was afraid Ruby and I might have an argument.
It was decided that Ruby and I would need to be kept separated all weekend. Mom put me in the room we would be sleeping in. At first I didn't mind because mom's son in-law was in there working.
After awhile it started getting pretty warm in that room. It turned out the A/C wasn't working at all. Mom's daughter had to call an electrician who determined that the house wasn't getting enough power and there must be a transformer problem. The next call was to Florida Power and Light.
Mom and her daughter sat out front in the shade while the little people (3 of them) rode their bikes and the adults drank champagne. It was nice being outside with mom. There was a very nice breeze. The little people and I all got to have a picnic dinner.
At first one man showed up, but a little while later he came back with a few of his friends.
Once they fixed the power issue we all went back in side and I had to go back in the room. Mom did her best to make sure I didn't get depressed. She brought all the little people in a couple of times a day and we would all sit on the bed together and they would pet me and ask mom lots of questions about me. That was no easy feat as this bed was even smaller than the one in Alabama.
Every time mom took me out for a potty walk everyone came,,,except Ruby, she had to stay home alone. That made me feel special. Sometimes the youngest would walk next to me with her hand on my shoulders. I liked that.
Our last night there my mom told me to expect all kids of strange sounds but said it would be okay. She then went outside with the family and they celebrated.
My mom even brought glow necklaces for everyone.
When mom took me out for the last time that night I growled every time I heard a large noise. Mom kept telling me it was okay and petted me. I was very happy when we went to bed together.
The next morning mom loaded everything up and we headed home. She tells me that if her work schedule permits we're going back in November for Thanksgiving. Being in the room alone part of the time is way better than being sent to a kennel.
Once again I was very happy to get home.
