Spring 2023
It was spring in Florida and mom decided to run away for a week before a big trial at work. Two weeks before a trial her team starts prepping and things get wild and crazy. She found this tiny, cozy cabin in a town called Andrews in North Carolina, just over the Georgia border
The going rate was only $50/night.
When we arrived, mom was happy to see frost on the mountains in the distance.
They had a wood burning fireplace and offered to buy the firewood for mom so she wouldn't have to cart it all the way up from Florida. They didn't think mom would need as much as she asked for, but the nights got pretty chilly and with no central heat, just small space heaters the fireplace was great for keeping the cabin warm.
The first night there I was not happy and did not want to eat my dinner. Mom eventually held my bowl in her hands and I ate.
So, what did we do all week? Absolutely NOTHING. Mom wanted a week to rest and get ready for what was waiting for her at work when she got back. Plus the nearest waterfalls were about 1-1/2 hours drive away, that's one way.
The listing for the rental said "private, secluded but not isolated" which made mom happy. Turns out the cabin was built at the back corner of the owner's house. It was neither private nor secluded.
I will agree with mom, this was the worst rental we've ever had and we will not be going back.
