Fall 2022, Back to Newland, North Carolina
It's fall again and we took our annual trip to the mountains of North Carolina. Mom rented the same house as the year before, but this year was special because my Aunt Kassie came with us.
Aunt Kassie used to work at the zoo taking photos of the guests and is a very good photographer. When we all went out mom handed her the camera and let Aunt Kassie take all the photos.
We arrived late Saturday afternoon and got everything unpacked and we all got settled in for the week.
On Sunday we stayed at the cabin and chillaxed in front of the gas fireplace while watching movies. Aunt Kassie got a good photo of the full moon.
On Monday we all got into mom's truck and headed to her favorite waterfall, Crabtree Falls.
After we left the falls, mom drove down the Blue Ridge Parkway stopping occasionally so Aunt Kassie could take in the views.
We had to pass through two tunnels.
The views were beautiful as always.
On Tuesday I had to stay at the cabin as mom and Aunt Kassie had special plans. First, they drove to Price Lake. I was sad I missed the hike because there are so many smells there. I like smelling the tree stumps the beavers have chewed.
Aunt Kassie took a great photo of the lake and all the colors on the trees.
Mom said they were lucky because the colors were perfect this year.
Aunt Kassie got a photo of mom hiking.
After Price Lake, mom drove them to Grandfather Vineyard and Winery. Mom had packed everything she and Aunt Kassie needed for a small charcuterie board and then they each ordered a flight of wine and sat by the river.
The reason I could not go with them is because the owners of the winery have 3 Border Collies that run loose on the property and other people bring their dogs. Since I try to protect mom for all other dogs, cats, birds and squirrels mom thought it best if I stayed home.
Their riverside refreshments
Wednesday arrived and we all got into mom's truck and headed off to Linville Falls. Hard to believe this calm river becomes the waterfalls just a way downstream.
It didn't take long to reach the upper portion of the falls.
Here's the river going into the chute for the lower part of the falls
After hiking further out Aunt Kassie got a photo of the upper and lower falls.
When we stopped to rest Aunt Kassie took this photo of mom and I.
This was taken at the farthest out point on the trail. From here we hiked back to the truck and then back to the cabin.
On Thursday, mom and Aunt Kassie drove into the town of Boone to do some shopping. But after driving around for 30-minutes they still couldn't find any parking, so they gave up and went back to the cabin.
Friday was our last day and we all went out to Moses Cone Manor. I had to wait in the truck while mom and Aunt Kassie shopped. Then we went for a short hike. We had to get back to the cabin and start getting things ready for our trip home the next morning.
The trail we walked was an old carriage trail.
The sunset on our last night was beautiful. When this happens, mom says it's the mountain's way of saying good-bye to her.
Beautiful photos and so glad y'all enjoyed a great trip!
