Mickler's Landing

Hi everyone, remember me, Mea'Ola? Its been two months since my last post. Mom and I have been hanging out at home and not going anywhere to stay safe and healthy. Mom was really lucky 'cause she works for an attorney and that was deemed an essential business so she got to work and even better,,she worked from home 75% of the time. Tomorrow she has to go back to the office full time and I'm really going to miss her being home with me.

Anyway, today we met up with a really good friend of mom's to take a walk on this beach called Mickler's Landing and see the sunrise. This lady must be a real good friend because mom and I were in the car for 45 minutes to get there and there are other beaches only 18 minutes away. But I digress.

We got to the beach and I was really excited, so very many smells from lots of other people and dogs. I had a hard time behaving. Mom was getting a little annoyed with me.

She finally told me I had to sit down so she could get a photo of the sky. I behaved myself and sat down for her. She laughed when she saw the sand on my nose. It's hard not to get sandy when sniffing so many scents.

Mom commented on how beautiful the sky was. She told me it was one of the most amazing sunrises she had seen and that she had seen a lot of them.

After oohhhing and awwing over the sky the three of us headed south along the ocean. I saw other dogs misbehaving so I tried my best to be good for mom. At one point she led me down to the water. I didn't mind walking in the water but when a 6-inch wave came I got scared and ran back to the dry sand. Mom laughed. Her friend tried to take pictures but couldn't see the buttons on the phone for the sunrise.

It was a very bright sunrise.

We walked quite a long way and I was getting thirsty. Mom had bought this thing called a Camelbak and tried to get me to drink water from the hose but it scared me. She tried putting water in her hand but I still wouldn't drink, she then put water in her hand and put it in my mouth. I wasn't happy.

A little further down the beach mom got really excited. She pointed out this place to her friend. It was a brand new sea turtle nest that had not been staked out yet. Mom said the turtle must have recently left because her tracks had not been washed away by the torrential rains the night before. Mom calls sea turtles "Honu" and she must love them,,,but not as much as me,,because she talks about them often.

When we got back to the car mom went to wash her feet off and came back with a bowl full of cold water for me, I drank it all.

When we got home mom said I had earned extra cookies but I was too worn out to eat them. I just wanted to rest.

When mom's roommate  got up I moved to protect my cookies. I didn't want anyone to take them while I was napping.

Mom says we are going on a road trip in a few weeks and we need to walk more than normal on the weekends to get ready for the trip.

** Note from mom:  since she refused to drink from the camelbak hose or my hand I have ordered collapsible silicone bowls to take on our next outing. Hopefully this will be the answer to keeping her hydrated on long walks/hikes.
