Mother's Day and Memorial Weekend
Hi everyone!
Now that the Covid-19 mess is getting better, the courthouses here in Florida have started trials again which means mom is really busy at work. She works for a trial attorney. Since there are so many trials coming up starting July 6th through the 1st of October for mom's boss, mom had to make changes in our trip plans.
4th of July at her daughter's house got cancelled for this year and our Annual Girls' Weekend over Labor Day got postponed until next year. But that didn't stop mom from making sure we got to see her family.
Mother's Day weekend we headed down to her daughter's house. As usual I had to stay in the guest room and mom made sure all her munchkins a/k/a 3 grandchildren came in to see me and they all took walks with me.
On Mother's Day all the humans went to a polo match. Mom loved it. Here she is with her daughter.
A couple of weeks later mom packed us up and we headed to Atlanta, Georgia to meet her newest grandchild.
Mom had a hard time finding a rental. There were places that were within walking distance of her son's townhome but they said I weighed too much. The owners only wanted little yippy dogs. Mom was determined to find us a place and she did. It was 4 miles from her son but otherwise was in a great location.
We rented a basement studio in this building. The building is a historic building, erected in 1909 as the showroom and headquarters for the B. Mifflin Hood Brick Company. The people who own it now live on the first floor and opened an art gallery up there.
We arrived on Saturday and mom's son and his girlfriend came over for dinner with the baby. Mom was a bit concerned about how I would react to the little human. But I was a very good girl and just laid on the floor watching and listening. My bed was just around the corner but I would not have been able to see everyone so I just laid on the floor. Mom didn't want to move my bed because then it would have been in the way while they were making dinner.
They all talked about this thing in the kitchen. Mom said it is part of the original furnace that heated the building.
After dinner we all took a long walk along the Beltline. The Beltline is a 22-mile loop around Atlanta on an old rail bed. It is pretty neat. Mom took a photo of this sign. There are lots of Magnolia trees planted along the Beltline where we were.
We walked down to the Ponce City Market. From 1926 until 1979 it was a Sears store and catalog facility. Now it has shops, restaurants and apartments.
On the bridge over the road to get to the Ponce Market we saw this banner. Mom of course had to stop and read about every person.
Across from the Ponce City Market is the Ford Factory Lofts. This was an assembly plant and the southeastern headquarters for Ford Motor Company from 1915 until 1942. Mom loves that they are refurbishing old buildings and not just tearing them down.
While walking we passed this mural. It is the back of a vet's office.
After we got back from our walk and everyone had left, mom folded the bed down and went to do the dishes. I went to bed. The first one in bed gets to pick their spot. Mom called me a bed hog and told me I had to move over so she could get into bed. When I didn't, she moved me, the nerve!
Mom just needs to make sure all future rentals have king size beds like we have at home. Then there would not be any issues,,,well not many.
Sunday mom put me in my crate and headed off to pick up some stuff from the DeKalb County Farmers' Market and then head to the Georgia Aquarium with Casey and the baby. Mom kept talking about how the baby slept all the way through the aquarium even with tons of people talking loudly.
Monday morning came and we had to head home but not before another long walk on the Beltline. This time we went in the other direction. A quick note, then entrance to the Beltline was maybe 50 yards from the place we were staying,,pretty cool.
We passed this sculpture. Three workers, the first is carrying a sledgehammer, the second plates to join the sections of train rail and the third has the spikes. They are made out of pieces from the old railway.
Along the Beltline the side of the buildings that face the Beltline have all been painted. Mom loved the butcher shop.
We came to and crossed a street and saw this park. Mom decided that we needed to do a lap around the large green area. She wanted us to do at least a 1-mile walk. When we got back to our rental we had done 1.74 miles and I was happy to nap in my crate while mom went out to breakfast with her son and his family.
When we got home mom bought me these doggles. She had seen photos of lots of other dogs wearing them while hiking in the North Carolina mountains and on a Shar-Pei from my rescue group. Since I dive into bushes after lizards mom said I need these. I rate these with the raincoat, not happy.
What interesting travels and lovely experiences you are having!😃
